| Abstract: | In autumn 1993 Poland's ex-communist parties came to power after winning a landslide victory in the country's general election. This article examines the factors and events responsible for the outcome of the election. It sets out to analyze the situation immediately before the election, the electoral law, the campaign, the results and the implications of the election. It is argued here that the electoral victory of the Polish ex-communist parties was by no means fortuitous. |
