Abstract:The race for reform is accelerating, but central european countries have more distance to go. A growing number of countries in post-communist east and central Europe have turned the corner. In these countries the savage slump in the region's output and trade has come to an end. Production and trade are now upward. Living standards are improving, progressively if not widely enough. None of the countries is out of the wood yet. They all have a good distance still to go.
