Abstract:Quality function deployment (QFD) enables business to focus all functional areas (design, engineering and manufacturing processes) on developing a product definition to satisfy the requirements of all important customers. Because of the success of their Japanese competitors, American companies started to investigate how the Japanese companies operated. They discovered QFD and eventually, enough was learned that by the late 1980's it began to be implemented in the USA and around the world.
