| Abstract: | A main feature of any FMS is its capability to maintain a stable performance under changing conditions. Changes may represent variations in demand, equipment failures and tool breakdowns, or new parts and products to be added to the system. Versatility measures at machine and system level are discussed. The extent of the machines' workload imbalance is presented as an off-line system performance indicator, expected to provide useful information at the design stage. A standardized, service oriented, on-line performance measure of the system is introduced. |
