Abstract:To improve the internal efficiency and business performance of small- medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) a number of training initiatives have been introduced in the United Kingdom over the last decade. The provision of training to SMEs has been based upon the premise that, "...training can, and should, be a powerful agent of change, facilitating and enabling a company to grow, expand and develop its capabilities thus enhancing profitability". Documents prepared by the Confederation of British Industry and the Small Business Bureau suggest such relationships exist.
