Abstract:Though less-regulated than most economies, Hong Kong's is rigged in all sorts of ways that defy market sense. But the days when it could afford such inefficiencies are drawing to a close. Ask Milton Friedman to name a real world model for his free-market ideals, and he is unequivocal. "If you want to see capitalism work," the Nobel laureate says, "go to Hong Kong". Friedman is not alone. In recent weeks, several international surveys have burnished Hong Kong's reputation, ranking it tops or near tops in terms of economic freedom.
