Abstract:During the Eight Five-Year Plan period the total accumulated volume of imports and exports, topping USD 1000 billion, reached USD 1014.4 billion, an increase of 1009 times over the Seventh-Five Year Plan period. China's exports presented the following characteristics:The structure of import and export commodities had apparently been optimized; The processing trade had become the main means of trade in China; The foreign-invested enterprises had become the important growing point of expanding imports and exports; The status of the coastal provinces and cities as the main body of earning foreign exchange from exports had been enhanced further; The machinery and electronic products had become the ones of the most major export category, replacing textiles. The competitiveness of China's export commodities on world market had been enhanced.
