Abstract:The European Union is the largest trader among the WTO members, even if intra-EU trade is excluded. It is becoming something like an economic hegemon in the pan-European sphere and the Mediterranian. Its economic size makes it a target export market for companies from almost every country in the world. The present article surveys the EU's trade policy against the background of the WTO's Trade Policy Review of 1995. Not only historical influences and the usual political economy have determined Community trade policy, but the tortuous process of integration as well.
