Abstract:To narrow the gap between the east and the west, we should take the following measures: 1.creating a good policy environment for the development of the central and western areas, 2.opening to the outside in order to give an impetus to these areas' development, 3. determining the key economic areas, supported by the state, 4.accelerating the adjustment and transformation of the enterprises of "the third line" (which refers to the strategic rear of the whole nation), 5. speeding up the growth of township enterprises and non-state owned sector, 6.increasing input to support these areas' agricultural development, 7. strengthening the construction of major thorough fares to promote the coordinated development of the central and western areas and the eastern areas, 8. to develop to jointly on a mutually beneficial basis, 9. supporting further the poverty-stricken areas.
