Abstract:For developing productive and cooperative teams it is important to understand team members' collectivistic orientation toward group goals and activities, with increasing use of work teams in U.S. industry. This study uses the research on expectancy theory, self-efficacy, locus of control and individualism-collectivism. Results show that individual difference variables of self-efficacy for team work, positive past experience working in teams and need for social approval are related to self-report collectivism. Team collectivistic orientation was found to be related to cooperative team behaviors.
