Abstract:This paper analyses the basic state of employment field in China and the employment situation in 1997. According to the forecast of population, employment and economic growth models, the newly added working population will reach 20.30 million and the population for employment, which will be added actually will still reach 10.80 million after deducting a population of 9.50 million including the retired, those who lose their ability to work, students and servicemen. The industrial structure of employment in 1997 is as follows: The employed in the primary, secondary and tertiary industries are 328.17 million, 151.81 million and 166.02 million respectively. The input of rural labour and the transfer of rural surplus labour tend to be smooth and the cultural structure will be improved to varying degrees.
