Abstract:Road traffic congestion has for the last decade increasingly plagued modern life in the rapidly growing Asian metropolises of Bangkok, Jakarta, Manila , and Kuala Lumpur. Congestion has often been viewed simply as a gap between supply (road space) and demand (vehicle use), and a "more roads" policy has frequently been applied in an attempt to close this gap. Providing infrastructural facilities alone, however, cannot keep up with rapidly increasing urban traffic demand for many reasons.
