Abstract:Why has the demand among employers for top managers to have highly developed interpersonal skills not helped to further the careers of women, who are believed to possess them in greater measure? The author suggests there is an inconsistency between rhetoric and action that represents another pane in the glass ceiling. Changing Roles for Senior Managers resulted from interviews with senior managers and personnel professionals in 18 leading companies, analyses of competency, and a forum for participants.
