| Abstract: | This essay interprets and generalizes studies and data related to economic and social issues in inner cities of U.S. metropolitan areas (MSAs). What are inner cities? Generically, they are the oldest parts of MSAs. Practically, all are incorporated cities, and most of the data on inner cities relates to incorporated cities or to the counties in which they are located. The central business district (CBD) of an inner city is typically the business center of the MSA. |
