Abstract:The ethnocentric policies of multinational corporations frequently come into conflict with host-country laws, norms and traditions. The article is a case of conflict in industrial relations involving the multinational firm, Toys "R"Us, and the Swedish trade union. When Toys"RU"Us refused to go along with the Swedish norm of entering into a collective bargaining agreement, the Swedish trade union ordered its members to go on strike and to protest the ways the American company treats its Swedish employees.
