Abstract:The UK retail banking sector is significantly behind its continental European competitors in its preparations for the introduction of the euro. The continental Europeans do not see UK banks as a threat, largely because they do not believe the Uk will join the economic and monetary union at its outset. However, it is not only in the UK that complacency, ir inertia, is the order of the day. Across Europe, many retail banks do not yet realise how 9 large an impact the eural will have on their businesses.
