Abstract:This survey reports the European retail market for perfumes and fragrances in France, Italy, Spain, the UK and Germany. under the period 1992-1996 for current data and 1996-2001 for the future outlook. Characterised by only minimal real growth, perfumes and fragrances is one of the least dynamic sectors of the cosmetics and toiletries market. Recessionary pressure on discretionary spending has impacted the global market for perfumes and fragrances, although recovery has been a feature of the latter years of the review period. The French market is the largest with a value of USD1,451 million in 1996. The markets experienced contrasting fortunes in 1996 with nominal growth ranging from a high of 5.9% in Italy to just 0.8% in UK.
