Abstract:User participation is positively related to user satisfaction in systems development. The more users participated projects the greater the level of satisfaction. Beyond this, specific participative behaviors were identified in order to explain the nature of user participation. Users were members of the project team for feasibility and were interviewed to obtain information requirements in every projects studied. The users could be participating in many more activities beyond the core set. This paper demonstrates that the type of participation that leads to satisfaction differs depending on the level of need for participation. The results provide the basis for selecting strategies for user participation.
