| Abstract: | There are conflicting views as to the efficiency and effectiveness of the water industry in England and Wales. Projections put forward by both water companies and OFWAT will, if unchallenged, lead to a significant escalation in the costs of this essential service as the industry invests heavily to meet a seemingly inexorable demand for more water and higher environmental standards. Real market competition is starting to introduce innovation and is challenging assumptions about economies of scale. |
