Abstract:The repercussions of the problems on the financial and foreign exchange markets are having more serious effect on the global economy than had been anticipated. The primary effects on the world economy emanating from the crisis-hit countries in south-east Asia were relatively minor. Initially the loss of output was barely perceptiple and investment plans remained unaffected. Meanwhile the accumulation of many individual effects, some of a self-reinforcing nature, have served to seriously flatten out economic growth trajectories.
