Abstract:The philosophy of Heidegger is matched in its influence on 20th century thinking perhaps only that by Wittgenstein, yet it has been relatively sparsely utilized in the social sciences generally and more particularly in organization/ management studies. The meaning of Being constitutes Heidegger's central problematic, to which all other aspects are related. Prominent among this is his poetic "fourfold": meaningful, "extatic" time instead of abstract, disenchanted time; the structure of care and belonging; the sacredness (concealed or not) of symbols; and the analytic of finitude and death.
