Abstract: | The author first introduces facts about tourist industry in the USA, and states that 1988-1998 international arrivals grew 36 %. However, the USA lost ground in 1998 as a result of a 3 % fall in arrivals. Receipts were also down by 3 %. The country's tourism product available has largely been shaped around domestic development. These include the ageing of the giant 'baby-boom' generation; the increasing number of families travelling; the growing interest in cultural, historic and adventure travel and gaming; and the increased use of the internet for information-gathering and reservations. |
