| Abstract: | The role higher education plays in the framework of lifelong learning according to the available research literature can be classified according to its function in comparison to initial degree study, the categories of adult learners addressed as well as the patterns of programmes and modes of teaching and learning. Special attention in the literature tends to be placed on continuing professional education whereas the question is hardly addressed how the sequence and character of initial and continuing education changes in a society that deserves the name lifelong learning society. |
