Abstract:Using "financial essence" as the outline, the article introduces China's view on the evolution of the question "what is essence", in the period nearly half century and draws a conclusion that: Market finance has two basic natures: governmental and public. The views that confirm one and negate the other are incomplete. Speaking from natures, for several thousand years, finance is state or government finances, but in the condition of market economy, government finance has the nature of public and becomes public finance. So the nature of public is a special nature of finance endowed by market economy and it determines that public finance is the suitable finance type to market economy.
