Abstract:The paper presents a model in which inter-generational transfers are interpreted as a cooperative agreement across generations. Cooperation is obtained by allowing each generation to share 'common principles', defined as set of strategies which answer the question: if an inter-generational transfer was to be designed, which one would be chosen under the premise that each generation shares with the next generations not only the outcome of the process, but also the 'reasoning' that leads to this outcome.
