| Abstract: | Pessimistic business press aside, let's not dismiss the upside of global exporting. Huge balance of trade deficits threaten to put the brakes on America's long economic expansion. The Economist fears that the rising trade gap will eventually cause the dollar to fall, resulting in higher import prices and inflation. Although the rise in the U.S. trade deficit is unavoidable given global economic conditions, a protectionist "buy domestic" approach is no cure. |
