Abstract:Supply chain networks encompass economic activities like procurement, production and distribution, which take place in one or more interdependent firms. These networks are influenced by changes in both internal and environmental conditions. Such developments can both contribute to or impair the network´s ability to achieve a given set of objectives. It is, however, possible to design supply chain networks with the capability to react to such developments in order to achieve their objectives. This capability is generally called flexibility. It can be built up, maintained and employed in networks through flexibility planning.
