Abstract:Norwegian University of Science and Technology The expanding focus on logistics management makes it necessary to rethink the concept of logistics organizations. In addition, there is a need for clarificatio of the relations between the practices of these organizations and the basic thinking that underlies their behavior. The paper presents a framework for understanding these relations by identifying certain teleological and ontological fundamentals of logistics organizational ideologies. The authors suggest certain principles and organizational practices that are underpinned by these ideologies. Furthermore, given the changes logistics organizations are experiencing today, the authors discuss how the changes are viewed within the various ideologies.
