Abstract:The author argues that public journalism as a reform movement has not achieved its objectives in promoting professional autonomy and occupational benefits. He continues that professional autonomy should be protected but the effort be directed at political activation. The author discusses implications of the presented argument for theory of press reform and for college instruction.
