Abstract: | Despite the progress in recent decades poverty among the elderly still remain a problem, especially among elderly women living alone. Poverty rates are much higher in the US compared to other nations in the Luxembourg Income Study. Most nonmarried elderly women in the US live alone and depend on Social Security system. The women in the Republic of Korea were more likely to be living with the children and receive support from family members. This paper uses the Luxembourg Income Study (LIS) database. |
