Abstract:In the paper, a structural model is developed to investigate the direct and indirect effects of owner-manager (here as: o-mgr.) and company characteristics (here as: comp-chars.) and selected management practices (here as: mgmt-prcs.) on the financial performance (here as: fin-perf.) of a sample of 218 small Belgian construction companies. The results show that the o-mgr. and comp-chars. (e.g. experience, education, financial knowledge etc.) have no direct significant impact on fin-perf. However, several significant paths have been found btw. the o-mgr. and comp-chars. and mgmt-prcs.
