| Abstract: | This introduction discusses the concept of governance, which has been very popular. It is criticised for its impreciseness. However, others consider its diffuseness well suited to analysis of the ambiguous institutions and processes of the European union. Some of the underlying debates are analysed and the articles in this issue of the European Journal of industrial relations are surveyd. Some hints for the future direction of the European polity are offered. |
