Abstract:Traditionally professionalism has been seen as a position of status and autonomy. This article examines employee responses to professionalization initiatives by relating the concept of 'performativity' to an analysis of professionalization on project management. The argument is that performativity offers an idea of the attraction, insecurity and aversion that professionalization arouses in workers.
