Abstract:The authors seek to define criterion for evaluation of expatriate success. They conceptualize the performance of expatriates in terms of (1) task completion, (2) relationship building and (3) overall performance. The amount and pattern of personal resources the expatriate uses on behaviours that lead to his or her position determine these three dimensions. The consideration in the article is based on work motivation and withdrawal researches and it concentrates on evaluation of effort. The authors introduce a model that is tested using data from expatriates, their spouses and associates. The results provide support for the hypothetical consecutive connections between adjustment, effort and performance dimensions. The results also expand the perspective of the criterion for expatriate success.
