Abstract:In this paper, the work of moral philosopher Alasdair MacIntyre (hereafter as: M.) in the area of virtue and organization (here as: org.) is introduced, aiming to provide entry points to M.s' work. The development of M.s' ideas on org. from 1953 to 1980 is traced. Outlined is the general theory of virtues, goods, practices and institutions emerging in the publication of M.s' seminal After Virtue in 1981. Finally, some of the uses to which these ideas have been put in the organizational literature are outlined.
