Abstract:By discussing seven mechanisms for communicating ethical values, the paper explores the critical role that organizational leaders play in establishing a values based climate. It also suggests that leaders at different levels rely on different mechanisms to communicate values and expectations, which ultimately influence members' practices and create an organizational climate. The article includes three parts: 1) brief discussion of climates, 2) the mechanisms for communicating values, and 3) discussion of concepts with implications for theory, research and practice.
