| Abstract: | This paper focuses in the way in which firms can enhance their alliance performance by developing alliance capabilities. The study uses data gathered from a detailed survey held among alliance managers and vice presidents of 151 firms. It covers more than 2600 alliances in the time period 1997-2001. The main conclusion is that both alliance experience and alliance capabilities are important anteecedents of alliance performance. In addition, the study yields novel insights into the micro-level building blocks that underlie when developing alliance capability. |
