Abstract: | This study proposes a framework to understand interpartner legitimacy (hereafter as: i-l.) in strategic alliances. It is argued that i-l. is needed for cooperation to achieve alliance objectives. Proposed are three types of i-l., that is, pragmatic, moral, and cognitive legitimacy. Dynamics of these types is discussed as to the formation, operation, and outcome stages of alliance development. In addition, the salience of i-l. in different alliance types is discussed etc. |
