Abstract:The purpose of this article is to explore the public relations (here as: p.r.) in the progressive era to gain a greater understanding of the historical development of corporate p.r. in the USA. The findings reveal that in the early nineties p.r. meant legal requirements of corporate disclosure and press exposure of secret corporate activies, and the purpose of p.r. was revealing excess and corruption. By the second decade of the twentieth century corporations used the term p.r. when referring to to developing relationship with the public.
