Abstract:A survey of 211 R+D projects made it possible to find relationships between the success of R+D projects and the following factors: 1/ the experience accumulated in the company, 2/ the support of the general management, 3/ setting company objectives correctly. Successful programmes could overcome all the technical and commercial difficulties during their life cycles. Proficiency of the company, its scientific standing combined with suitable marketing skills can considerably increase the probability of success. Several further recommendations are given as to how to increase the probability of success and reduce the level of uncertainty.
