Abstract:The Japanese-inspired just-in-time (JIT) system of production has many incentives for British management. This is true not only in the automotive industry, where it is best known in Europe. However, the authors argue that there are implications for employee relations, which should not be ignored. They looked at two companies, and found that the introduction of JIT affected job content, supervision, pay and on motivation and job security.
