Abstract:Banks are angry with the UK government's plan to resort to capital markets to finance export credit. The government wants to refinance the Export Credit Guarantee Department's (ECGD) existing export credits on the capital markets and reduce bank margins on the credits. Banks are complaining that they have fewer contracts than before. If the government limits the British banks' activities, then Japanese banks will replace them.
