Abstract:At a time when the Netherlands, West Germany and France are following the footsteps of London, New York and Tokyo, the Brussels bourse is still characterized by traditional blackboards. In contrast, the Belgian banks are very modern and internationalized. In summary deregulation has not gone as far as in other places, but by 1992 (the date of EEC liberalization) any lag should be eliminated. Economic problems are also present: the country's total debt is larger than her GNP, and her deficit is about 1/7 of her GNP.
