Abstract:At the core of Quality of Working Life is the need to build workplace communities. This movement represents the societal changes at organizational level in such a way as Alvin Toffler formed his "third-wave" theory of social development. It is evident that work methods change so fast that they make obsolete the traditional managerial control systems. The same can be said of the consulting skills derived from Kurt Lewin's insight which had made up the source of second-wave OD practices. Expert diagnosis as process "snapshooting" and action-taking as an interaction of social forces in OD programmes are critically dealt with. Third-wave consultants focus on people's willingness to be responsible for doing important tasks together.
