Abstract:Two very different employment systems were compared in a cross-national study: the "individualist" of America and "collectivist" one of Poland. Groups of employees chosen for this study were performing the same highly skilled professional design engineering jobs. The data were gathered using self-administered questionnaires. A total of 326 Polish and 306 American engineers responded to the survey. The results were grouped under the following headings: demographic characteristics, organization socialization, long-range career goals, utilization of skills and obstacles to more effective work, work group cooperation, evaluation of supervisory style, motivation and performance, attitudes towards organization.
