Abstract: | Different typologies of domination can be constructed using a great variety of criteria: capital, other resources, field of activity etc. The relationship between the form of domination within organizations and the forms of legitimacy in society are examined. It is supposed that the study of ways of domination in corporations is a necessary precondition to the theory building about the elite that manages industry. Owing to this exploratory hypothesis, relations are drawn between phases of development, types of rationality prevalent in organizations, and the ways in which leaders' power are legitimated. This viewpoint counteracts the notion of a company culture, which has to do more with a crisis of management. |
