Abstract:A study is presented of corporate planning in 223 firms in Singapore. The development of corporate planning is summarized. The Singapore sample is described. A mail questionnaire was used. Data and opinions are presented about the practice and purpose of planning. Effects of the local business environment are highlighted. The role of forecasting is examined. Planning tools and concepts are described and compared. The role of management and the board is analysed. Criteria for capital allocation are listed and evaluated. Contrasts between Japanese and US firms are described.
