Abstract:Modeling the store of an assembly shop is concerned which consists of components and the vendors need to deliver the components for the assembly at some time and deliver them to the shop floor for fabrication. An assembly shop has a fixed production schedule of one assembly per unit time and the delivery of components from a vendor needs to be timed to this production schedule. The store of an assembly shop is modeled as a queue, the arrival streams are modeled by due date processes and the transient and steady state solution for waiting times and the assembly queue length are found. Some of the issues facing a manager of such a store are discussed, and it is shown how they might be resolved by using this methodology.
