Abstract:One purpose was to analyze the size and time phasing conditions under which it would be reasonable to expand natural gas distribution into new regions. First of all, there is the consideration of economies of scale, i.e. fact that the larger the capacity for production, the lower the average unit cost for pipelines. A model is developed demonstrating a stepwise procedure for determining the optimal size of pipeline investment under economies of scale.
