Abstract:The model used is an attraction-constrained spatial interaction or gravity model. It is used as a simulation model to explore the consequences of different options which have already been established as feasible under other constraints on the expansion or contraction of in-patent hospital facilities on existing sites, as well as the potential for the future development of new sites. Two different possible criteria are explored which it is suggested are relevant interpretations of the general aims in the planning. The first is the extent to which use of hospital services by population is in line with their relative need. The second is the relative ease of geographical access to the facilities.
